How adjust top header to be stationary?

Hi –

I recently purchased your theme, it has been working out great so far, thank you. Currently I am having trouble how to alter my head in regards to not having it static and also having it the background color I prefer. Currently it has the darker default color that matches the slider image in the background although I am looking to make it its own stand alone entity. How do I go about modifying these things correctly?
